Streptavidin蛋白質(卵白素)，從細菌中純化出來的。streptavidin跟avidin比較，較不溶於水，較不易與細胞表面抗原產生交叉反應。與biotin具有極高的親合性。可應用於具有標定biotin的抗體。提供使用者一個放大分析敏感度的工具。Biotin/Streptavidin或Biotin/Avidin系統，都可以顯著提供予客戶高敏感度，以及低背景值的需求；Biotin與Streptavidin具有很高的親和力，因此可有效降低與其他蛋白質之間的非專一性交叉作用。
