口蹄疫(Foot and mouth disease；FMD)是一種急性偶蹄類動物傳染病，會造成嚴重之經濟損失。引起該病的病原是屬於正股單鏈RNA的口蹄疫病毒(FMDV)，歸類於小核醣核酸病毒科(Picornaviridae)、口瘡病毒屬(Aphthovirus)。FMDV共有O、A、C、Asia 1、SAT 1、SAT 2、SAT 3等七種血清型，各血清型病毒間並沒有交叉保護作用。

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is the most contagious disease of
mammals and has a great potential for causing severe economic loss in
susceptible cloven-hoofed animals. There are seven serotypes of FMD virus,
namely, O, A, C, SAT 1, SAT 2, SAT 3 and
Asia 1.
The demonstration of
specific antibodies to non-structural proteins (NSP) are useful in providing
evidence of previous or current viral replication in the host, irrespective of
vaccination status.
The serological test for structural protein(SP)
antibodies by virus neutralization, liquid-phase blocking(LPB) ELISA.
The
OIE had prescribed serological test for NSP and structural protein (SP)
antibodies for surveillance program of FMD.
