BioVision’s ADP, ATP and ADP/ATP ratio assays kits cover many important ADP- and/or ATP-driven events. While ADP is both a product and a substrate of various phosphatases, phosphorylases and kinases, ADP is also stored in platelets and can be released to interact with a variety of purinergic receptors and ADP levels regulate several enzymes involved in intermediary metabolism. The detection of ATP, a central molecule in the chemistry of all living things, is an important indicator of cell proliferation, the activity of various enzymatic reactions, as well as, for detecting low level bacterial contamination in samples such as blood, milk, urine, soil, and sludge. Moreover, changes in the ADP/ATP ratio have been used to differentiate the different modes of cell death and viability such as cell proliferation, growth arrest, apoptosis and necrosis. BioVision offers both conventional luminescent based assay kits which utilize a very stable luciferase from the Chinese firefly (Diaphanes pectinealis), as well as, colorimetric and/or fluorometric based assay kits, especially convenient for labs that do not have direct access to luminometers or beta counters.
